Police ID Driver Killed In Single-Car Crash In Montgomery County

Police said the crash occurred on westbound Cherry Hill Road near O'Fallon Street.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Police have identified the driver who was killed on Sunday in a single-car crash in Montgomery County, according to authorities.

Police said the crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. in the area of Cherry Hill Road near O’Fallon Street.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a 2007 Toyota Avalon had overturned, leaving the driver trapped. Fire and rescue personnel extricated the driver and provided aid, but the driver — later identified as 26-year-old Mariama Samateh of Silver Spring — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Samateh was the vehicle's only occupant, police said.

After further investigation, police determined Samateh was traveling westbound on Cherry Hill Road when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned.

The Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
