Vote Daniel Lukomsky for Gaithersburg City Council
Local candidate talks about important issues.

Dear Neighbors,
My name is Daniel Lukomsky and I am running for Gaithersburg City Council. I love living in Gaithersburg and I want to make our city a better place for everyone. I believe that we are at a crossroads, facing a number of challenges and opportunities.
Rising crime and speeding on residential streets are two of the biggest challenges we face in Gaithersburg. Property crime, such as burglaries and thefts, has been on the rise in recent months, making people feel unsafe in their own homes and neighborhoods. Speeding on residential streets is a major factor in traffic accidents, and it is especially dangerous for children and pedestrians. It also makes it difficult for people to enjoy their neighborhoods on foot or on bicycle.

Beginning November 1st, the Montgomery County Police Department will need to focus their limited resources on responding to emergency calls only that come from Gaithersburg and Rockville. While unfortunate, this change is necessary due to rising crime and a shortage of officers in the county police force. To improve public safety long-term, it will be important for Gaithersburg to hire and train additional police officers dedicated to protecting our city. With smart investments in law enforcement staffing and community policing initiatives, such as foot patrols and neighborhood watch programs, we can work together to reduce crime and rebuild a sense of security and trust.
We must also address the issue of speeding on residential streets. This can be done through a combination of traffic enforcement and education measures. For example, the city could install speed bumps or speed cameras in areas where speeding is a problem. The city could also work with schools and community organizations to educate residents about the dangers of speeding and the importance of following the speed limit.

Small businesses are the backbone of the Gaithersburg economy. They create jobs, provide goods and services, and contribute to the vibrancy of our community. However, small businesses are facing a number of challenges, including rising rents, increasing competition from online retailers, and a lack of access to capital.
Finally, the lack of affordable housing is a major problem in Gaithersburg. It forces people to live further away from jobs, and it decreases their quality of life. Affordable housing is especially important for teachers, police officers, service workers, and healthcare staff.
Despite these challenges, I believe that Gaithersburg has a bright future. We have a strong economy, a diverse population, and a commitment to being good neighbors. With the right leadership, we can overcome our challenges and seize our opportunities.
That is why I am running for Gaithersburg City Council. I want to work with the community to make our city a safer, more livable, and more affordable place for everyone.
Specifically, I want to:
- Reduce crime by investing in public safety, making sure our police department is well-funded and trained. I also want to encourage citizens to report all crime, so that police can quickly respond to sudden spikes. Additionally, I support formal job training programs, apprenticeships, and summer programs for teens, as these can provide an alternative to crime.
- Make our streets safer by reducing speed on residential streets and making our community more walkable and bike-able. I also want to invest in infrastructure improvements, such as crosswalks and bike lanes.
- Support small businesses by streamlining the government approval process, giving small businesses the opportunity to market themselves with assistance from the city, and making it easier for small businesses to get loans. I also want to create a small business advisory council to provide input on how the city can better support small businesses.
- Build more affordable housing by increasing the supply of affordable housing units, being flexible with zoning, and protecting existing affordable housing units. I also want to work with developers to create incentives for the construction of affordable housing.
I believe that I have the experience and skills to make a difference. I have a proven track record of working with people from all walks of life to find common ground and solve problems.
