Deck Fire Displaces One Gaithersburg Family, Three Cats Missing

Rescue crews were dispatched to a house fire in Gaithersburg around 4 a.m. Tuesday. No one was injured.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Two people evacuated their Sabbath Court home Tuesday at 4 a.m. after discovering a fire, authorities said. Fire crews were able to put the blaze out but the residents have been displaced, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Three cats are still missing. Chickens in a nearby coop are okay, Piringer said in a video posted to Twitter. Fire crews think the fire started in the back patio area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The estimated damage is $600,000 to $700,ooo, said Piringer.
