Gaithersburg Budget: City Asks For Public Comment
The City of Gaithersburg is asking for public input for their proposed fiscal year 2020 budget.
the city websiteGAITHERSBURG, MD — Gaithersburg officials are asking residents to fill out a survey outlining programs, initiatives and amenities they think will push the community forward.
The six-question survey asks residents to specify what they think is "vital to maintain a healthy, sustainable community," the city said in a release.
Here's how the city plans on spending:

- 24 percent: infrastructure and city facilities
- 14 percent: public safety
- 14 percent: parks, recreation and culture
- 13 percent: capital
- 13 percent: city administration
- 10 percent: city-wide
- six percent: license and permitting
- six percent: community and housing services
Here's where the city is getting money:
- 43 percent: property taxes
- 28 percent: grants and shared revenues from other governments
- eight percent: fines and other
- eight percent: charges for services
- six percent: licenses and permits
- four percent: hotel and amusement taxes
- three percent: funds on hand

Survey results will be given to the mayor and city council on Monday, March 16, when the draft budget is officially introduced, the release says. Public comment will be held at that meeting and at a separate budget public hearing on Monday, April 20.
Comments can also be submitted to the City Hall via email.
