Gaithersburg Couple Wins $31K In Racetrax Game At Safeway

A Gaithersburg couple bought a $10 Racetrax lotto ticket at a Gaithersburg Safeway and found out hours later they had won $31,454.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Gaithersburg couple is more than $30k richer after a trip to the Safeway on Goshen Road ended in winning Racetrax, a computer-animated horseracing game, the Maryland Lottery said.

The pair decided to play the game while shopping and picked their number.

“She always says ‘You should play big’ and ‘Try big,’” the husband told Maryland Lottery. “So, we placed a Trifecta bet for 12, 11 and 10 to come out because those numbers give a bigger payout if they win.”

They left the store without waiting to see the outcome of the race but found out later at home that they were winners.

“I was watching TV and heard a gasp from the other room,” said the husband, according to Maryland Lottery. “It was my wife, but it was an exuberant gasp, not one of distress.”
