Gaithersburg Election Results: 2 Incumbents, Newcomer Win Council Seat
Two incumbents and one newcomer were elected to seats on the Gaithersburg City Council, according to unofficial election returns.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Unofficial results for the Nov. 7, 2023, municipal election for three City of Gaithersburg Council Members have been announced.
The top three candidates with the highest number of votes were incumbent Neil Harris, who received 2,900 votes (24.57%), Yamil Hernández, who received 2,189 votes (18.55%), and incumbent Robert T. Wu, who received 2,932 votes (24.84%), according to a city news release.
Daniel Lukomsky received 885 votes (7.50%), Shanika Whitehurst received 2,072 votes (17.56%), and Omodamola Williams received 824 votes (6.98%).

Mail-in ballots must have been deposited in ballot drop boxes or postmarked by November 7. Same-day voter registration was available for in-person voting, with voters casting provisional ballots pending approval. On November 14the Board of Supervisors of Elections will review provisional ballots and mail-in ballots mailed by November 7 but received by November 9.Official results will be announced on November 15.
Once certified, the newly elected officials will be sworn in at a special session of the mayor and council on Monday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. They will each serve a four-year term.

The meeting can be viewed live on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter @GburgMD, and can be watched via Zoom with pre-registration here. The meeting will also air live on the City’s cable TV channels, available countywide on Comcast 27, and within City limits on RCN 13 and Verizon FiOS 25.
As of Nov. 7, 4,200 ballots were cast, 2,567 of them by mail and 1,633 at the polls. There are 37,113 registered voters in the City of Gaithersburg, for a preliminary voter turnout of 11.32%. By comparison, voter turnout in the 2021 City of Gaithersburg election for mayor and two city council members was 12.45%.
