GAITHERSBURG, MD — A man rescued from a house fire in Gaithersburg late last year has died, a fire official said.

Montgomery County firefighters said they rescued the man from a basement during a townhouse fire at 854 Bayridge Drive on Dec. 2.

At the time, county fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said the fire was probably caused by a space heater in the basement. The space heater, he explained, was near a bed and ignited the bedding.
