GAITHERSBURG, MD — Investigators on Monday released surveillance photos of a man suspected in three armed robberies at gas stations in the Gaithersburg and Germantown areas.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. (See image below.)

The first robbery was reported about 11:15 a.m. Feb. 20, at the Liberty Gas Station in the 600 block of South Frederick Avenue. That was followed, police said, by an armed holdup at 11:46 a.m. that day at the Sunoco Gas Station in the 19200 block of Frederick Road.

In both cases, the suspect went into the gas station, picked up items, and approached the register. At that point he pulled a large kitchen knife from his coat, pointed it at the cashier, and demanded money from the register. The suspect fled both businesses with an unknown amount of cash.

On Feb. 23, at about 8:45 p.m., police were called to an armed robbery at the Exxon station in the 7900 block of Muncaster Mill Road.

Detectives said the suspect entered the business and purchased a pack of gum. After pretending to leave, he reappeared near the counter with a large kitchen knife and attempted to stab the cashier. The employee was able to hide behind the counter and lock the door. The suspect left without taking any money.

After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives believe the same suspect robbed all three gas stations.

The suspect is described as a white/Hispanic male, 5-feet, 8-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighing 170 to 190 pounds, wearing a large black coat, a blue knit hat, a white/black button-down shirt, and red/black sneakers.
