Report: Midcounty Extension Could Mean Farewell to Wells for Homes in Ag. Reserve

A plan intended to ease congestion on roadways between Clarksburg and Gaithersburg could cause 20 homes to loose or relocate their wells, The Gazette reports.

Montgomery County Department of Transportation Planning Manager Aruna Miller—who is also a state delegate—told the newspaper that well or septic service could be impacted at 20 homes along the Alternative 4 route, one of several options the county is considering for the Midcounty Extension.

Traffic Upcounty is only expected to get worse. Transit officials have been trying to find ways to improve traffic flow and the pedestrian-friendliness of intersections along MD 355. County transit officials are expected to select a preferred alternative in September, according to county records.

One of those options, Alternative 4, would expand Wightman and Brink Roads to four lanes and would add a sidewalk along Ridge Road (MD 27), county records show. The cost for this alternative is an estimated $251 million, according to The Gazette. 

Most of the homes affected are along Brink Road, in the Agricultural Reserve, the newspaper reports.
