Report: Pit Bull Kills Small Dog In Gaithersburg

Washington Post: A pit bull killed a small dog on Wednesday, June 19, in Gaithersburg.

An unleashed pit bull attacked and killed a small dog last week in Gaithersburg, The Washington Post reports.

The pit bull, which was being watched by its owner's brother, bit an 11-year-old bichon frese by the neck and didn't release it until the bichon frise was dead, according to the report. The 21-pound bichon frise was being walked by its owner.

The 50-pound female pit bull is under quarantine at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Rockville and will be released to its owner on June 30, an animal field services supervisor with the Montgomery County Police told The Washington Post.

The pit bull will likely be declared potentially dangerous and be required to be muzzled when off the owner’s property, according to the report. The owner will be fined $600.
