Rockville Woman Dies Days After Crash, DUI Suspected
The fatal crash involving two vehicles happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday, police said. One driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A woman who was critically injured in a crash on Sam Eig Highway in Gaithersburg on Saturday has died, police said Thursday.
Montgomery County police said a collision involving two vehicles happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. on westbound Sam Eig Highway at Fields Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Corolla was stopped at a red traffic signal when it was struck from behind by a Jeep Compass, which was traveling westbound on Sam Eig Highway.

The driver of the Toyota and its passenger, 88-year-old Myrtle Gottlieb of Rockville, were both taken to an area hospital. Gottlieb died Wednesday after suffering life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the Jeep Compass, an 18-year-old man, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, police said.

He was taken to Gaithersburg City Police Headquarters and given a test to determine his blood alcohol concentration, the results of which are pending at this time.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, and any charges will be filed upon the completion of the investigation.
