Rufus the Rednosed Raindog Comes to Life at the Arts Barn
The Gaithersburg Arts Barn Just for Families! series invites the whole family to celebrate the holiday season this December.

Gaithersburg, MD – (November 7, 2016) The Gaithersburg Arts Barn Just for Families! series invites the whole family to celebrate the holiday season with Rufus the Rednosed Raindog at the Arts Barn on Saturdays, December 3, 10, and 17 at 3 p.m. The Arts Barn is located at 311 Kent Square Road. This puppet show is recommended for ages 4 and up. Tickets are $12.
A lost and lonely dog shows up at Santa’s workshop in this original story by Blue Sky Puppet Theatre founder Michael Cotter. At first he’s rejected because he has a red nose, but eventually he and everyone around him realizes how special he is.
Originally written for the birthday party of a friend 35 years ago, Cotter’s classic creation maintains its appeal through the timeless message that “we are more alike than we are different.” According to Cotter, the show “is fun, wacky and full of audience participation. Once the children in the audience meet Rufus, they want to help him.” Adding to the occasion, a Santa puppet will make an appearance.
“Rufus the Rednosed Raindog” is part of the Just for Families! series, featuring children’s performances and classes at the Arts Barn. Upcoming events include Stories of Dr. Seuss on February 20, Guys and Dolls Junior April 21 through 30, and Hip Hop Snow White on May 5 and 6.
Recalling the charm of a by-gone era, the Arts Barn is a City of Gaithersburg visual and performing arts center housed in a beautifully-renovated horse stable in the heart of the Kentlands. Experience the arts through classes, exhibitions, musical concerts, and theater. Visit the Arts Barn online at www.gaithersburgmd.gov or call 301-258-6394.
