Water Main Break Gets Week off to Wet Start for Gaithersburg Community

WSSC: 28 water main breaks were reported Thanksgiving Day.

Fifty Gaithersburg residents left with out water after a water main break erupted in the hours leading up to the morning commute, according to several news accounts. 

The 8-inch line ruptured at around 3 a.m. at Gold Kettle Drive and was capped at around 7:30 a.m. Video of the water main break was posted at MyFoxDC.com. A WSSC spokesman told The Gazette that the cause of the break was unknown, though cold weather was suspected to be a factor.

There were 28 water main breaks reported in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties on Thanksgiving Day alone, according to The Gazette article (>>>See: “Water line break interupts service in Gaithersburg townhome community” at Gazette.net).

There was another Monday morning water main break in Northeast Washington, WJLA reports. The 12-inch water main break shut down portions of Benning and Bladensburg Roads.
