Editor's Picks For The Weekend

It's going to be sunny this weekend, so head outside.

Friday 

Are you a teenager that needs something to do this month? Check out all of the fun opportunities offered by the Xtreme Teen program. An open house will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Greenbelt Community Center. Some of the events to look forward to are laser tag, roller-skating, bowling and a Halloween party.

Stitching for Charity takes place every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. Those interested must be at least 16-years-old to register, which costs $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. All items created during class will be donated to various charitable organizations.

Saturday

Canoe the Anacostia Oct. 9 with the Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group. The trip begins at 9:30 a.m. and will last about three hours. It is for those 12-years-old and up with a suggested donation of $25.00. For more information contact Susan Barnett at susnbarn@earthlink.net or 301-474-7465.

Another great outdoor activity for the weekend is the Bowie Run for a Cause 5K Oct. 9. The 1-mile run begins at 9:02 a.m. and the children's fun run at 8:45 a.m. and are both free. Registration is $25 on site and $20 for pre-registration.

Sunday

Looking for a new place to call home? Check out the community-wide open house by Greenbelt Homes, Inc.  Oct. 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Check out this exhibit before its unavailable, local artist Richard Paul Weiblinger's wildlife photographs are now on display at the Maryland-Capital Park and Planning Commission Prince George's County Parks & Recreation Department's Arts and Cultural Heritage Division in Greenbelt until Oct. 15.
