Emmett Jordan reviews 'Bridesmaids'
Emmett Jordan gives 'Bridesmaids' 2 out of 4 pops of popcorn -- and he says that's with no butter.

You may want to save your money on this romantic comedy, as it will likely be coming soon to a cable TV channel near you. The plot revolves around Annie, a single 30-something living in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. Unlucky in love and work (a recently failed boutique bakery business is her passion), her life seems to be falling apart.
When her best friend Lillian gets engaged and asks Annie to be her maid of honor, Annie accepts, but it'’s clear that Annie has an abundance of personal “issues." The plot follows Annie and the other “maids of dishonor” through the rituals leading up to the wedding.
The scenes in the movie flow like skits in a television sitcom -- Laverne & Shirley get married?!?
- The bridesmaids get aggressive competing for best toast at the engagement dinner.
- The bridesmaids get food poisoning before going to a dress fitting.
- The bridesmaids get kicked off an airplane on their way to Las Vegas.
There are funny moments, but the jokes revolve around scatological situations. It contains strong language and some sexual situations, but teens would relate to the humor.
The characters are one-dimensional and quirky beyond belief. For example one of the bridesmaids, Lillian'’s heavy-set friend, works for a government intelligence agency and is a devotee of the movie, "“Fight Club." Then there are Annie's roommates, an English brother and sister who seem just a little too close.
The cinematography and production values are good. The musical score is not especially memorable, beyond the “feel good” musical ending with the lead characters singing along to the Wilson-Phillips 90s anthem, “Hold On."
On a scale of four, this film gets a two from me.
