Greenbelters Vote for Council To Stay Out Gas Tax Debate

As of March 20, Greenbelters leaned toward council staying out of matters outside its jurisdiction, such as the state gas tax.

When it comes to our poll on Governor Martin O'Malley's gas tax proposal, 43 percent, or 10 voters, said — "Greenbelt City Council should stay out of state and federal matters, like the gas tax, where council has no real impact."

Coming in second place with 26 percent, or 6 voters, was the option stating — "We're already reeling under increasing gas prices. Oppose the gas tax.'

The poll was posted after city council's last regular meeting on March 12, when council voted 4-3 in favor of taking no action for or against the , with council members Edward Putens and Konrad Herling voting against doing nothing. Council Member Rodney Roberts was silent during the vote, but explained that his silence indicated a no vote.
