Reverse Tashlich Stream Cleaning Project Planned
The event, which will take place at 9:45 a.m., is cosponsored by Mishkan Torah Synagogue and the Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group

The entire community is invited to turn out and participate in the third annual “Reverse Tashlich” on Sunday, April 10, at 9:45 am. The event is cosponsored by Mishkan Torah Synagogue and the Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group ,under the auspices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Sara & Samuel J. Lessans Good Deeds Day.
“Tashlich” refers to the Jewish custom of throwing crumbs into a body of water to symbolically rid oneself of bad habits at the Jewish New Year. A “reverse tashlich” offers the opportunity to reverse the effects bad habits by cleaning up a local stream. This year’s Reverse Tashlich will clean up Still Creek.
Participants should register in advance on GoodDeedsDayGW.org or by calling 888-246-1818. The project is listed under Mishkan Torah’s name. Registration is free and open to all. Participants will meet at Mishkan Torah ,10 Ridge Road, Greenbelt at9:45am, then caravan to the nearby site. The clean-up site will be wet and muddy. Participants are urged to wear long pants, boots or sturdy shoes, and clothes that can get dirty and to bring gloves. Participants are also asked to wear a hat to protect from tic and to do a tic check afterwards.

Participants last year last year removed a total of 18 tires, 20 bags of recyclables, 13 bags of trash, one-and-a-half car bumpers, one muffler, and one jeep window from Beaverdam Creek! Who knows what buried treasures participants will find this year? Come volunteer and find out!
