Congressman Talks Underage Drinking At Boys & Girls Club

Have you ever wanted to see your elected officials dance and squirm?

If so, Tuesday at the would have been something like a dream come true.

Havre de Grace and pulled out their fast feet for the Boys & Girls Club Tuesday to help educate kids about the risks of underage drinking.

Both elected officials tried their hands—or rather their feet—at an interactive, educational game that the congressman, along with The Century Council, helped bring to the club. Century Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking.

The issue of underage drinking is impacting kids across the nation at younger and younger ages.

"According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, nearly 16 percent of 12 to 14-year-olds report they have consumed alcohol in the past month," Sarah Cissna with the Century Council said in a release. "Our Ask, Listen, Learn program has the potential to further reduce these numbers."

Harford County Boys & Girls Club Director, Randy Acosta, and board member Jeff Foulk told Patch unhealthy living and underage drinking are important issues to address for the club.

"Underage drinking is a major problem not only in high schools, but in some cases the middle schools" Foulk said. "That's why it's important here at the Boys and Girls Club to get the right message to the kids at an early age."
