Harford County Libraries Open As Cooling Centers

Harford County Public Library branches are open and cool.

will offer more than books this weekend.

They're offering air conditioning.

With temperatures soaring above 100 degrees, local library branches are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, offering cool locations for those looking to duck out of the heat.

All branches are open until 5 p.m., aside from Darlington Library—which is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

“We encourage the citizens of Harford County, particularly the elderly, young children and those with respiratory health issues to seek shelter from the heat," County Executive David Craig said in a statement through the Maryland Emergency Management Agency. "With the support of Harford County Public Library Director Mary Hastler all libraries will be open to the public for those who need some relief from the expected high temperatures."

Harford County is under a heat advisory Saturday, and Saturday morning following severe thunderstorms overnight.
