Havre de Grace Hosts Pirate Fest This Weekend

The pirate-themed events include a pub crawl, 5K run, encampment and a gala.

Arrrgh you looking for something to do now that the fireworks have cleared and the carnival has left town?

If so, consider walking the plank to the of Havre de Grace this weekend.

Pirate Fest takes over the museum—commonly known as the —for the weekend of July 13-15.

The weekend begins with the inaugural Pirate Pub Crawl at 6 p.m. on Friday. Participating pubs include Coakley's, Laurrapin, MacGregor's, Rodgers House Tavern and Tidewater Grille. "Booty bags" and "treasure maps" will be given to those participating. Registration is $10, with pre-registration is available at www.thelockhousemuseum.org.

The 5K run begins at 8 a.m. on July 14 at the Lock House. The run follows along the Lafayette Trail. Pre-registration is $20, and walk-up registration is $25, with online registration is available at www.active.com or www.thelockhousemuseum.org. T-shirts and bags will be given to the first 500 to register, and awards will be presented to top finishers.

Saturday morning marks the start of the pirate encampment, which will come to life at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday on the grounds at the Lock House. The sights will include cannon fire, skirmishes and duels, organizers said. Family-friendly activities include live music by Scales and Crosstones, costume contests, pirate tales, games and guided tours. The museum will be open throughout the day. Admission to the encampment will be $3, while children 12 and under get in free.

The Fifth Annual Pirate Gala will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets for the adult party are $50, available at the ,  and in Havre de Grace, in Aberdeen and  in Bel Air, or online at www.thelockhousemuseum.org.
