ABINGDON, MD — OrthoMaryland celebrated its 100th anniversary with the opening of another location in Harford County in January 2025.

“As we celebrate 100 years of compassionate care and orthopaedic excellence, we are proud of our history and excited for the future,” said David Buchalter, M.D., president of OrthoMaryland. “Our new Harford County location reflects our continued commitment to meeting the needs of our patients and communities with innovative and personalized care.”

As the oldest continuous independent orthopaedic group in Maryland, OrthoMaryland offers general orthopaedic, sub-specialty orthopaedic and physical medicine and rehabilitation care, both operative and non-operative. Specifically, the physicians and staff at OrthoMaryland treat musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, "regardless of whether it is a new problem or a chronic problem, as long as it isn’t a life-threatening emergency."

"Bone, joint, muscle or ligament, we are prepared to serve. Should a patient need the services provided by an ER, we would recommend the treatment be transferred, but we pride ourselves on saving patients from the unnecessary ER trips that can come with stress, time and money," Jamie Watt Arnold, senior vice president of OrthoMaryland, told Patch.

Fourteen physicians provide more than 50,000 patient visits annual across all their locations, along with a team of 18 physician assistants and physical and occupational therapists. The patients at OrthoMaryland are all ages and have a wide variety of back stories as to why they need help.

"Accidents at work, in a car, on a bike, trips/falls, or if you have just been feeling stiff and sore – we are here when you need us," Watt Arnold said.

The medical practice has other locations at Baltimore at Quarry Lake, Owings Mills and Lutherville. The Abingdon site was chosen for the walk-in clinic after patients and local physicians communicated the need for such a service in the area. Not only do they offer walk-in opportunities and physical therapy, but also onsite X-ray services and a full durable medical equipment suite so patients don't have to wait for supports or aids after a diagnosis.

"We understood that healthcare needs don’t always align with traditional appointment schedules. Patients want the flexibility to seek care when it is convenient for them, whether that means addressing an urgent injury or finding answers without the delay of scheduling. Abingdon is a community that was underserved in orthopaedics, thus causing delays in patient appointments and care. We feel strongly that the community needs timely and expert orthopaedic care, right when they need it. The synergy between the immediate orthopaedic availability and timely physical therapy truly makes it possible to address the patients’ needs when it is convenient for them," Watt Arnold told Patch.

OrthoMaryland is part of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics and its new state-of-the-art facility in Harford County can be found at 3401 Box Hill Corporate Center Drive, Suite 120., Abingdon. It is open Monday through Saturday with weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
