State Issues Air Quality Alert

The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a Code Orange air quality alert due to today's hot and humid temperatures.

WJZ reports the alert advises sensitive groups, including seniors, children and people who suffer from asthma, heart disease or lung disease to avoid the outdoors due to the high air pollution concentrations.

The alert covers the Baltimore metropolitan area, including Harford, Carroll, Howard and Anne Arundel counties, according to the report.

In Harford County, all county libraries will serve as cooling centers.

The heat index was forecast to enter the triple digits Monday.
