
The winners of the recent Optimist Oratorical Contest were Mary Norris and Connor Maher, both seventh-graders at St. Joseph Catholic School.
They each took first place at .
St. Joseph seventh-grader Paige Taranto, as well as eighth-grader Ian Moore, were first runners-up at the contest.

Norris and Maher will compete later this month at the district competition in Ocean City.
Recently, all eighth-graders participated in the Catholic Math League contest, a national math contest for Catholic School students, according to a news release from the school.

"They competed in the Algebra 1 division and took four different tests throughout the year," the release states.
Fifteen St. Joseph School students tested in the top 100 overall. And three of those students scored in the top 40, the release states. They were among 1,206 students from throughout the country took the tests.
"These young men and women are excellent role models for the younger students in the school," Principal Terrance Golden said in a statement. "They have worked hard to earn these honors, and, along with their parents and teachers, we are very proud of them."
