Acting Fire Chief Completes Fireman's Test

Bashoor finished the challenge in just over the allotted time.

Last Saturday, completed the Candidates Physical Ability Test (CPAT) including a physical challenge course. Bashoor wasn’t required to do this, but on Dec. 13 he promised that he would.

“The job of a firefighter /medic is one of the most physically demanding jobs and requires high levels of cardiopulmonary and muscular endurance,” said Mark Brady, county Fire/EMS spokesman.

Bashoor completed the eight critical, physical tasks that simulate actual duties of a firefighter on the scene.

Candidates are given 10.4 minutes to complete the course.

Bashoor took the test at the CPAT test facility in Millersville, while wearing a protective helmet and vest weighing 75 pounds. The gear is intended to duplicate the weight of a firefighters’ personal protective equipment.  Bashoor completed the course 1 minute and 7 seconds beyond the allotted time, which is not unusual for a first time tester. Bashoor has now pledged to return and complete the course again within the allotted 10.4 minutes.
