Flurry of Thefts From Autos Reported Monday Night

Hyattsville police caution residents to not leave valuables in an unattended car.

The Hyattsville Police Department has reported several thefts from autos that occurred last night in the areas of the 3600 block of Gallatin Street and the 5000 block of 38th Avenue.

In these cases, vehicle windows were broken and any items of values were removed from the vehicles. On Oct. 26, police said a similar trend was noted at the 4300 blocks of Jefferson Street and Kennedy Street.  Residents are reminded to remove valuables from vehicles, especially items such as GPS units and removable stereo faceplates, when the vehicle is being left unattended.

"There is no lookout / suspect information at this time," said spokesman Sgt. Chris Purvis. "We are aware of the increased thefts and are notifying our patrol units to increase visibility and confront suspicious persons in the area in an attempt to identify suspects."
