Home to St. Jerome

New Catholic archdiocese schools superintendent visits St. Jerome School.

Bert L'Homme, the new superintendent for the Archdiocese of Washington, made a homecoming visit to St. Jerome School earlier today.

Bert was a parishioner at St. Jerome Church in the 1980s while he was getting his PhD at the University of Maryland and again in the 1990s. His daughters attended St. Jerome's for part of their education.

From 1991 to 1994 L'Homme was vice president of the advisory board of education for St. Jerome School.

"The St. Jerome School community is thrilled and honored to welcome Deacon L'Homme 'home to St. Jerome'," said Principal Mary Pat Donoghue. "Today Deacon L'Homme returns to familiar territory. As St. Jerome's steps into its future as a Catholic school in the classical model, we look forward to many fruitful years of working with Deacon L'Homme as Superintendent of Catholic Schools."

After a lot of consultation with school and other parish families, the school has completely changed its curriculum and is offering a classics-based program, the only parish Catholic school in this region to do so, said archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Gibbs.
