Hyattsville Green Homes Project Meeting Tomorrow
Find out if you qualify for the program and how you can cut your energy costs.

Ever wonder what you can do to stop warm air from seeping out through the space at the bottom of your back door? What about those old windows, letting the cold winter air inside?
Well, wonder no more.
The City of Hyattsville is offering a solution to homeowners age 65 and up, as well as lower-income homeowners with its Energy Retrofit Program.

In this two-phase plan, Ecobeco will be performing the energy assessments and Appalachian Energy Specialists and Premium Energy Solutions, LLC will be performing the Phase II Energy Efficiency Retrofits. Phase one will also include a home safety inspection and a list of energy improvements that the homeowner should consider.
In phase two, the homeowner can access funding to pay for some of the improvements.

"You make the homes safe, you make them more energy efficient," said Jim Chandler, Hyattsville's community development manager.
The assessments may also shave off some of the energy costs these people face.
"A lot of their costs are fixed except for energy costs which can shoot up really quick like we saw last year," Chandler said.
Tomorrow at 3 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. the city is holding an informational meeting about this new program, which is expected to begin mid-month. To find out if you qualify head over to City Hall or e-mail retrofit@hyattsville.org.
