PG Police Officer Involved in Brentwood Shooting

No one was harmed after the officer discharged his weapon.

A Prince George's County Police officer shot at a man Friday night after the suspect reached for the officer's weapon, according to Prince George's County Police.

Detectives from the District 1 Robbery Suppression Team were working an assignment near Rhode Island Avenue and 38th Street when they saw two people, one with a mask, walk into Lowest Price gas station. The detectives thought the suspects were about to commit a robbery so they confronted them, according to police.

One of the suspects, later identified as Ryan Keith Dorm, 19, of Cottage City, swung at the  officer and then ran.  The officer caught up to Dorm after a foot chase and the Dorm reached for the officer's gun. The officer shot his weapon at him because he feared Dorm would get control of the officer's weapon.

There were no reported injuries from the shooting, police said.

Dorm has been charged with attempted second degree assault and attempt to disarm a law enforcement officer.

The involved officer is a 13-year veteran and has been placed on administrative leave, police said.
