Rose's First Three Initiatives

Here are three things that new city administrator Gregory Rose hopes to address soon.

Gregory Rose is Hyattsville’s new city administrator.

Here are three things that are on his to do list for the beginning of his tenure:

1) Quality of services that the city provides

Things like trash and other infrastructure services.

“[We need to ensure] that they are where the council and the citizens believe that they should be.”

2) Economic Development projects

The economic crisis has hit many areas.

“The housing market is going to rebound, the difference is how,” Rose said.

“We’re going to continue being a growing community so we need to have a place to accommodate that growth.”

Hyattsville needs to make sure it has the infrastructure to support that growth and that it considers the potential impact on existing residents, Rose said.

3) City finances

“[We need to take a] look at the financial position of the city to ensure that it is where it needs to be,” he said.” I have no reason to believe that there should be any concern.”

Many jurisdictions are facing financial challenges, and Rose has heard positive things about the city’s financial position.

“ [We] need to be careful about expenditures in the future and how they impact the city and the budget long term,” he said.

So, why Hyattsville?

“I think that the connection for me is that Hyattsville gets back to where I was raised, that small town and the sense of community that I was personally very fond of,” he said. “I believe I can have a positive impact on Hyattsville with my background.”

The city is hosting a meet-and-greet with Rose at 6:30 tonight at City Hall.
