Traffic Alert: Expect Lane Closures For Resurfacing Project On MD 201
Motorists can expect delays from single lane closures on MD 201 and MD 459 for a resurfacing project, officials say.

HYATTSVILLE, MD — Motorists can expect delays from single lane closures on MD 201 and MD 459 starting late this week for a resurfacing project, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) announced.
The $3.5 million resurfacing project will take place on MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) between the Washington D.C. Line and Lawrence Street in Hyattsville. The project is expected to be complete summer 2018.
Officials will patch, pave and restrip nearly two miles of MD 201, as well as resurface MD 459 (Columbia Park Road/Tuxedo Road) between the US 50 (John Hanson Highway) to MD 201, according to a press release. Other work includes repairing and cleaning drainage pipes and inlets, replacing concrete curb and gutters and repairing/replacing guardrail.

Motorists can expect single lane closures on MD 201 and MD 459 Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
MDOT SHA’s contractor, Fort Meyer Construction of Washington D.C. is permitted to close two lanes and ramps Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

These sections of MD 201 and MD 459 are heavily travelled routes between Maryland and the District of Columbia. Nearly 165,000 vehicles travel this section of MD 201 daily, while MD 459 has an average daily traffic volume of 7,000 vehicles, according to the press release. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time during construction hours.
