Officer Hit By Passing Vehicle While Investigating Broken Down Car

A U.S. Park police officer was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a passing vehicle while investigating a broken-down vehicle.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A U.S. Park Police officer investigating a broken-down vehicle near the 410 ramp Dec. 27 around 3:20 a.m. was hit by a vehicle passing by the scene.

The driver also hit the officer's marked patrol car, according to the USPP.

The police officer was airlifted by a USPP helicopter to a nearby hospital where the officer was treated for injuries. Authorities said the officer is expected to survive.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision stayed at the scene and was taken into custody. The driver of the broken-down vehicle also was arrested. Both drivers were arrested for suspected impaired driving, authorities stated.
