'Mayberry Patch' Mourns

It's hard to imagine Mayberry in the digital age, but if there were a real Mayberry, you can bet there would be a Mayberry Patch. And, it would be a sad day.

The fictional Mayberry has been a part of American culture since the debut of "The Andy Griffith Show" in 1960.

Andy Griffith, 86, Mayberry's iconic fictional sheriff, Andy Taylor, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday at his home.

Mount Airy, NC, was said to have been the inspiration for Mayberry, but there may be a little Mayberry in every American town.

While "Mayberry" as a concept seems of a different age, it has a healthy existence on the Internet. In fact, Ron Howard, the Hollywood director who played Opie on the show, broke news of Griffith's death on Twitter:
