Emma Cogan, a senior at Loyola University, was awarded a Fulbright assistantship to teach in Malaysia.

A Kensington resident will spend ten months teaching in Malaysia after being awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA), according to a Loyola University press release.
Emma Cogan, a senior at Loyola University Maryland, will begin teaching overseas in January 2013.
Cogan, a history major and philosophy minor, will spend her time in a small rural community abroad, assisting English teachers in a classroom for 20 hours a week and spending an additional 10 to 15 hours a week leading school-related activities, according to the release.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Cogan said, noting that service was a large part of her college education.
This is the fourth consecutive year that a Loyola University Maryland student was awarded a Fulbright and only 75 applicants receive ETAs in Malaysia each year.
