New Owners from NFL, NBA Revamp Kensington Fitness Center

Retro Fitness will celebrate its revitalization with food, music and free classes from celebrity trainers.

Retro Fitness in Kensington will celebrate its grand re-opening on Saturday, Nov. 8, after undergoing renovations financed by its new management team.

The gym’s new owners have impressive pedigrees: there’s retired NFL cornerback Leigh Bodden, retired NBA player Rob Kurz, CEO of The Effective Fitness Training Group Mike Rattenni and Wall Street executive Allan Boomer.

“The group we pulled together has such a wealth of knowledge in the industry and previous success in Retro Fitness, so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to rejuvenate this location,” Boomer said in a press release. “Each person has a passion for fitness and a unique background that will drive this gym in the right direction.”

Now with a 1,500 square-foot turf field, updated equipment in its existing fitness rooms and a new lineup of group classes with knowledgeable instructors, the fitness center’s owners said they hope the large-scale renovation project will provide members with new and creative ways to get in shape.

From 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. on its opening day, Retro Fitness — located at 5238 Nicholson Lane in the White Flint Plaza — will have classes taught by 2014 Miss Wisconsin Kena Jodges and celebrity NIKE trainer Deanna Jefferson. There will also be special giveaways, music from WPCG DJ Chris Styles and food from a menu of healthy options made by Hell’s Kitchen Chef JR Robinson.
