Edgar Allan Poe's “body” and casket will lie in state at the Laurel Museum beginning October 29 and running during museum open hours through-November 28. The re-enactment of the dark and somber day the poet was laid to rest is a Poe Baltimore interactive art installation. It explores the mysterious circumstances of Poe's death in Baltimore in 1849 and how the very clothes in which he was found are a tantalizing clue to the mystery of his final days. Visitors will see a reproduction of period clothes similar to what he wore, and can also pay respects at a special candle-light vigil are for the master of horror and mystery. Donations benefit the Laurel Historical Society and The Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum in Baltimore NOTE: Death and funeral imagery (including “body” in an open casket), may not be suitable for young children.
