Caregiver Who Abused Disabled Client Is Sentenced

A professional caregiver of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities has been sentenced for abuse and neglect.

LANHAM, MD — A care provider for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities has been found guilty and sentenced for the abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult.

In December 2023, videos were sent anonymously to Taibat Fola Suenu’s employer that showed Suenu slapping and hitting the victim on the head and face. In that video, the victim, who was non-verbal, can be heard whimpering and is seen recoiling from Suenu as she hits and slaps her.

On Sept. 10, Suenu was found guilty of one count of abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult in the second degree.

“This defendant abused a person who relied entirely on her for daily care and protection,” said Attorney General Anthony G. Brown. “Exploiting that kind of vulnerability is a profound betrayal of trust, and it will not be tolerated. Our office will always protect vulnerable Marylanders and hold accountable anyone who harms those placed in their care.”

On Dec. 12, the court sentenced Suenu to five years suspend all but 94 days with five years supervised probation. Suenu also has been banned from working as a caretaker or with vulnerable adults in any capacity, Brown stated.
