Laurel College Standouts: Clemson President's List, St. Mary's Dean's List

Notable accomplishments in and out of the classroom by Laurel natives.

Below, find a roundup of the latest honors, degrees, and extracurricular accomplishments from Laurel-area college students. Descriptions are courtesy of the institutions named and/or students' family members.

Clark University: Amanda G. Palmer of Laurel received a degree from Clark University on Sunday, May 19. Palmer graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in screen studies.

Clemson University: Hanna Rebecca Sheffrin of Laurel has been named to the President's List at Clemson University for the spring 2013 semester. Sheffrin is majoring in Nursing. To be named to the President's List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.

Also, Carl James Eichert of Laurel has been named to the Dean's List at Clemson University for the spring 2013 semester. Eichert is majoring in Physics. To be named to the Dean's List, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

Coastal Carolina University: Taylor Williams of Laurel, a junior majoring in Communication, is among more than 1,500 students who made the Dean's List at Coastal Carolina University for the Spring 2013 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average. All students must be enrolled full time.

Eastern Connecticut State University: Nana Ama Owusu-Agyemang of Laurel graduated Cum Laude from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication. Owusu-Agyemang was also inducted into the Eastern's Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society and was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2013 semester. Owusu-Agyemang's major is Communication.

Grove City College: The following Laurel residents were named to the Dean's List for the spring 2013 semester at Grove City College:

  • Julia Tolson, a freshman Biology major has been named to the Dean's List. Julia is a 2012 graduate of Atholton High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Warren Tolson of Laurel.
  • Anna Kitchin, a junior English major has been named to the Dean's List. Anna is a 2010 graduate of Rockbridge Academy and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Kitchin (Kathleen) of Laurel.

Students eligible for the Dean's List have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59; for the Dean's List with Distinction a GPA of 3.6 to 3.84 and for the Dean's List with High Distinction a GPA of 3.85 to 4.00.

Hudson Valley Community College: Jodi Bailey of Laurel was named to the President's List at Hudson Valley Community College for the Spring 2013 academic term. Each fall and spring term, the college's President's List honors those students who have a term grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0.

Merrimack College: Laurel resident Ruchel Lowe-Eastmond was recently awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

St. Mary's College of Maryland: The following Laurel students were awarded Dean's List honors for the spring 2013 semester at St. Mary's College of Maryland: Jessica Clayton, Rachel Heim, Francis Moran, Tessa Scheckelhoff, Rebecca Webster, Erica Wharry, Jaimie Wilder, and Jessica Zeroth. Dean's List honors are awarded to full-time students at St. Mary's College who earn a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or better on 12 or more graded credits.

York College of Pennsylvania: Jordan Megaughey of Laurel graduated from York College of Pennsylvania on May 18 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Megaughey, a senior accounting major, was also named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2013 semester. To be eligible for this honor, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.
