McCeney March: September 24. Family Fun Day Follows

Walkers can enjoy a double the fun day when they join the 7th Annual McCeney March Sat. September 24 followed by a Museum Family Fun Day.

Walkers can enjoy a double fun day when they join the 7th Annual McCeney March Saturday September 24. The walk travels through Old Town Laurel Saturday, September 24 starting at 11 am. Following the March, walkers can then enjoy Family Fun Day at the Laurel Museum.

Walk participants can choose to walk 1 mile or a 5K Walkers will be encouraged to walk through historic Laurel, to a business on Main Street. In person, and virtual walkers are encouraged to document their walk with pictures and share them on social media. Virtual walkers are also invited to walk 1 mile or a 5K at a time of their choosing between September 24 and October 1.

According to McCeney March Chair Bob Mignon, “This year’s walk and fun day mean a family can enjoy a full day of activities in one location – while helping a great cause and supporting our local young people. Walkers and sponsors can know their participation helps young people like those who recently received scholarships reach their potential. It also helps our local schools achieve their education goals.”

The Family Fun Day will feature tours, cupcake decorating and a special Cold Oven Pound Cake Challenge, judged by local Laurel celebrities.

Jim McCeney is remembered for his commitment to our community, to Laurel's history, and to making Laurel a better place. He holds a special place for the Laurel Historical Society, where he served as President, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Board. Jim McCeney walked 3 miles a day for many years. After he passed away in 2016, the organization established the McCeney March in his memory. The March Map will highlight one of Jim McCeney’s walking routes.

The Laurel Historical Society is located at 817 Main Street. The Laurel Museum is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12-4, The current exhibit “What’s Cookin’ Laurel: Restaurants, Recipes and Community runs through December. 19. Admission is free.
