Vantage Point Hosts Online Series of Film and Discussion Evenings
Racial Equity and Cultural Literacy are Topics of Shows Sept. 23 and 30
The Vantage Point Arts & Culture Collective is presenting a series of online programs celebrating Residences at Vantage Point’s 30th anniversary. The second and third shows in the series, “Community Rising,” will be shown Sept. 23 and 30. All programs run from 7-8 p.m. and are free. Registration is required.
“Community Rising” features videos followed by conversations between community leaders on issues of importance and current attention. Viewers may participate in the moderated discussions via Chat.
On Sept. 23, a video of anti-racist activist Jane Elliott with Oprah Winfrey on the talk show host’s program almost two decades ago will be shown. It will be followed by a conversation, “Anti-Racism and Black Lives Matter,” between Candace Dotson Reed, Chief of Staff and Executive Director, Office of Equity and Inclusion at University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Tom Coale, an attorney with Talkin & Oh in Howard County. The final program, on Sept. 30, includes a TED talk video, featuring Princeton student Priya Vulchi and Harvard student Winona Guo, co-authors of the textbook, “Tell Me Who You Are.” It will be followed by a conversation, “What It Takes to be Racially Literate,” between Sabina Taj, Howard County Board of Education member and Adjunct Faculty at Howard Community College, and Hammond High School junior Uma Ribeiro. The Vantage Point Arts & Culture Collective presents programs for residents of the retirement community and other local residents to showcase Residences at Vantage Point’s engagement with Howard County institutions.

Residences at Vantage Point was founded in 1990 and is a nonprofit serving people age 60 and above. Managed by Life Care Services, the community includes a variety of residential living arrangements and provides assisted living, memory care and long-term health services for residents should they need them.
