Awakening! Children's Chorus of Maryland Spring Concert

42nd Annual Spring Concert Welcoming the Long Overdue Springtime!

Children’s Chorus of Maryland & School of Music celebrates its 42nd annual spring concert, Awaken!, on Sunday, May 6th, at 3 pm at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium at Mercy High School. Children’s Chorus of Maryland invites everyone to join them in welcoming the spring with Awaken! Three individual children’s choirs will perform selections celebrating the coming alive of all that is missed during the long, cold winter. Awaken includes works by Fauré, Duruflé, Morley, Handel, Humperdinck, Kallman, and Goetze. The concert culminates with all young voices between the ages of 6 and 16 coming together to create the setting of the joyful English May Day Carol, arranged by our founder, Betty Bertaux. Reception for performers, friends, family, and audience members to follow the concert.

Children’s Chorus of Maryland is one of the oldest programs for choral music education and performance in the United States, featuring children ranging in age from five to seventeen. Founded in 1976 by well-known artistic director, composer, and teacher Betty Bertaux, the program teaches children to read, write and sing music while taking classes in music history, theory, and vocal performance. Previous Lyric and Concert Choir students have had the opportunity to participate in televised broadcasts, tour internationally and perform at well-known regional and national venues including Carnegie Hall, Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and the White House. The music school and choral performance program are located near downtown Towson at 320 East Towsontown Boulevard.
