Loyola Reitz Arena Getting $1M in Improvements

On Thursday, when many NCAA basketball teams start their seasons, and less than a year after Loyola University Maryland’s men’s team made the NCAA Tournament, the school announced a $1 million gift to improve Reitz arena. 

The donation was made by Jim Forbes, class of 1980, and his wife Hollis, and will be used to add enhanced signage and scoreboards at the 2,100-seat arena, according to a news release from the university.

"I am extraordinarily grateful for the Forbeses’ generosity, which will play a pivotal role in our overall progress as we work to achieve critical goals for athletics in the University’s strategic plan," Rev. Brian F. Linnane, president of Loyola, said in the release. "For members of the Loyola community and our neighbors throughout the Baltimore area, improvements to Reitz Arena will greatly enhance their experience as fans of the Greyhounds and strengthen their connection to the University, the unique opportunities we offer, and the spirit we foster on campus."

In recognition the court at the arena will be named Forbes Court.

The gift also includes $100,000 for software traning for students in the school’s Sellinger School of Business and Management.
