Mercy High School Announces Partnership with Charm City Players

Theater company will be in residence at Mercy.

Mercy High School, a private, Catholic college preparatory school for girls in grades 9-12, today announced a partnership with Charm City Players, a nonprofit that provides exceptional family theater entertainment and quality arts education to the Greater Baltimore community.

Charm City Players joins the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra in partnering with Mercy High School to bring theatrical offerings to Mercy students and the broader community.

In addition to its Broadway-style productions featuring a large company of talented performers and a live orchestra, Charm City Players will offer year-round classes in dance, drama and music to children ages 5-16. All the theater company's performances will take place in Mercy High School's state-of-the-art, 670-seat Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium.

New additions to Charm City Players' offerings this year are "Broadway Connection" master classes on select Saturday mornings. Broadway performers from national touring companies visiting Baltimore and Washington, D.C., meet in a master class with children and teenagers to focus on voice and dance.

Through the partnership with Charm City Players, Mercy students will have the opportunity to work on all facets of a theater production from performance to design to management.

Charm City Players will present the Baltimore premiere of Disney's The Little Mermaid June 18 through July 17 in the Weinberg Auditorium at Mercy.

"Mercy High School is proud to be the home of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra and now Charm City Players," said Mary Beth Lennon, president of Mercy High School. "These partnerships offer unparalleled opportunities to our Mercy girls who will practice and perform with professionals in our Weinberg Auditorium."

Founded in 2011, Charm City Players has been named "Best Family Theater" by DC Metro Theater Arts, an organization that covers theater in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.

Mercy High School is a private, Catholic college preparatory school for young women of diverse backgrounds. The school provides its students with rigorous academics, enabling them to form habits of lifelong inquiry, critical thinking and courageous action in a global society.
