Multiple Schools Close Amid Plummeting Temps: BCPS

Baltimore City Public Schools officials said that utility and building issues Tuesday led to early closures.

BALTIMORE, MD – Several schools are closing early on Tuesday, according to Baltimore City Public Schools.

The following schools let out at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 19, school officials reported:

  • Calverton Elementary/Middle School
  • Edgecombe Circle Elementary
  • Armistead Gardens Elementary/Middle Schools

The school system cited heating and facilities issues as the reason for the early dismissal.

Temperatures were below zero on Tuesday in Baltimore, with winds gusting up to 34 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The health commissioner for Baltimore also declared a “code blue” because of cold temperatures, effective until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
