Towson Elks Donate $18,000 to Veterans Organizations

Proceeds from Inaugural "Wine & Dine for Warriors" Event Will Support Veterans

The Towson Elks Charity Fund, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) arm of the Towson Elks Lodge #469 that supports services and programs for Veterans and children, has awarded donations to three veterans organizations from the proceeds of its inaugural Wine & Dine for Warriors event.

Wellspring of Life Farm, a nonprofit 71-acre farm in Monkton that provides equine and canine therapy to Veterans and others experiencing emotional, cognitive, and physical challenges, was awarded an $8,000 grant to support their services to veterans.

Platoon 22, a nonprofit in Frederick, MD that is dedicated to ending Veteran suicide by helping them to adjust to civilian life after service, was awarded $5,000 to provide financial assistance to Veterans in need, as well as acupuncture, reflexology, and other treatment modalities for PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and other effects of military service.

Operation Second Chance, a nonprofit organization that assists wounded warriors and their families readjust to life after service and hospitalization, was awarded $5,000 to provide retreats for four families or groups of Veterans at Heroes Ridge at Raven Rock in Sabillasville, MD.

“We are thrilled to provide this critical support to these very worthy organizations that fill often-overlooked needs within the local Veterans community,” said Stacey Peto, Towson Elks Past Exalted Ruler and co-chair of the 2023 event. “The Towson Elks have been committed to supporting our Veterans since our inception in 1899, and with the addition of the “Wine and Dine for Warriors” event, we are able to expand our reach to more Veterans and fulfill the mission of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.”

The 2nd Annual Wine and Dine for Warriors event will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at The Recher, in Towson, MD, and will feature dinner, beer & wine, a silent auction, and live music by Annapolis-based 80’s rock band, Weird Science. Tickets are just $65.00 for individuals and $120 for couples and may be purchased at www.towsonelks.org/events. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

The Towson Elks Lodge #469, residing on the same property in Towson since February 1899, is one of more than 2,000 lodges of the national benevolent and protective order. Membership is open to men and women. The Lodge’s 501(c)(3) charity fund supports services and programs for veterans and youth in our community.
