Both schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 27, Baltimore City Public Schools announced Tuesday afternoon.
Employees will be on “code yellow,” meaning only essential personnel should report.
“We are continuing to work closely with city agencies to ensure school buildings and offices and the surrounding streets are cleared and prepared for the safe return of students and staff,” the announcement said.

A note to residents: Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Tuesday that inspectors will begin fining residents Wednesday who have not shoveled their sidewalks. It does not matter whether one’s street has been plowed, she said; it is essential for people to shovel sidewalks so citizens can access public transportation and other roads. There must be a 2-foot path for people to get through, Housing Commissioner Paul Graziano told WBAL Radio. Homeowners may be fined $50, and commercial property owners face $100 fines for not clearing sidewalks.
