5 Things that Odenton is Thankful For
A look back on 2013 and the things that make this town great.

In the Odenton area, there's plenty to be thankful for.
As we look back on 2013, we take time to offer thanks for all of the things and people that make Odenton great.
Here are five things we're thankful for in Odenton.
Military and Federal Workers - It's been a challenging year, as the folks at Fort Meade dealt with force reductions, sequestration, and furloughs, all while trying to carry out the mission of defending the country. We owe them some gratitude for their commitment and service.
Norm Myers - The community lost a great advocate on Nov. 22 when Myers passed away after a long illness. He will be remembered as a man who was able to get along with everyone and help move Odenton forward. Most of all, he set an example for others about the importance of giving back. We'll always be thankful for his contributions.
A Neighborhood Coming Together - When a shooting incident shook the Chapelgate Community, residents turned it into an opportunity to resurrect the defunct community association. Scores of residents came out for meetings, the group recently elected its new board of directors.
Good Football - High school football fans in the area were spoiled when three of the local high schools reached the playoffs. Then we were treated to a tremendous regional final game, won 22-21 by Meade High over Arundel.
Some Boomtown Progress - In 2013 we learned of some movement in getting new businesses in North Odenton. The Meade Center project is ready to move forward with a steakhouse, and is another stretch that could be redeveloped with offices and retail.
What else are you thankful for?
