6 Awesome Things About the First Day of School

Students get back in action this week in Anne Arundel County. Here are some things to love about the first day.

Reconnecting With Friends, In Person - Because communicating with them all summer on text, chat, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and Tumblr just isn't cutting it.

Reminding Yourself What a Textbook Is - "What, so I have to carry this around all day? And turn these pages? I'm sorry, I can only read 140 characters at a time."

Being "Helpful" to the Freshmen - "The cafeteria? Yes. It's on the third floor. Next to the pool."

Starting Work on that College Resumé - If you haven't already taken 17 AP classes, been named class president, volunteered 100 hours at a nursing home, won a state soccer title and designed a working solar-powered car, you're not getting into College Park. Get busy.

Riding the Bus - What, you got the front seat? Oh, it's gonna be a long year, kid.

Acronyms and Initials Galore - AACPS students can show their P.R.I.D.E. by signing up for IB or AP programs at OMS or AHS. Look out for the Watch D.O.G.S. at OES. Are you a member of the POES PTA? Are you aware of the MDSE's EGATE program?
