9/11 Ceremonies, Memorial Runs Planned In Anne Arundel County
Anne Arundel County will host 9/11 ceremonies and memorial runs on Thursday. These six events will mark 24 years since the attacks.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — First responders and service members will honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with several events Thursday in Anne Arundel County.
The Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Departments will host a remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. in front of the county's 9/11 Memorial in Millersville. That's located outside police headquarters at 8495 Veterans Highway. County Executive Steuart Pittman, Fire Chief Trisha Wolford and Assistant Police Chief William Lowry will attend.
In Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen will place 2,977 small U.S. flags along Stribling Walk on Wednesday from 12:45 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. in remembrance of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. Fourteen of these flags are larger in size to represent the Naval Academy alumni who died that day.

On Thursday, midshipmen will participate in the 9/11 Remembrance Run. Midshipmen will continuously run with the U.S. flag from Glenn Warner Field/Luce Hall beginning at 8:46 a.m., the time when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into 1 World Trade Center, and ending at Smoke Park at approximately 5:20 p.m., the time when 7 World Trade Center fell. The run will consist of groups of seven to nine midshipmen running in timed increments.
After the run, the command chaplain will lead an evening reflection at Smoke Park. There will be an invocation, a moment of silence and remarks by Naval Academy leadership. The guest speaker will be Lt. John Breen, New York City firefighter and first responder at Ground Zero. In the event of severe weather, the 9/11 Remembrance Run and ceremony will be in Halsey Field House.

Fort George G. Meade will also host events in Odenton. Over 800 military members will participate in a Patriot Day Run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at McGlachlin Parade Field on Mapes Road. Fort Meade Garrison Commander Col. Yolonda Gore, joined by civilian first-responder leaders from the local surrounding community, will lead a joint formation of soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, guardians, family members and friends on this annual remembrance run.
Gore will then hold a remembrance ceremony at the Fort Meade Fire Station, located at 6619 Mapes Road, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
