Bid on Some Treasures at New 2 Us Antiques

The new antique and thrift store in Odenton will have coins, jewelry and plenty of knicknacks available at auction.

A walk through the New 2 Us store in Odenton is a bit like a walk into the past.

There's an old kitchen table manufactured at the former Nevamar plant. There's a washing machine from the 1950s. You can even find a 1992 Presidential campaign button for Ross Perot.

On Saturday, many items will be up for bid during the store's quarterly silent auction. Customers can bid on sizable lots of items including glassware, coins, jewelry and keys from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New 2 Us has been open for about two months near the corner of Odenton Road and Piney Orchard Parkway. It's operated by Daphne Savoy, and Odenton resident and friend Adam Evans. The pair had always bought and sold antiques at various flea markets in the area and eventually decided to open a store together.

"My wife told me I had to get rid of all this stuff," Evans said. "I was kind of a hoarder. Plus, it gets cold in the winter and I don't like to be selling stuff outside."

On Thursday afternoon, Evans was busy packing items for the auctions.

"We've got a ton of boxes," he said.

The sizable store has a wide range of furniture, with plenty of other notable items. There's a Spanish Navy sword from 1873. There's a 300-year-old Rose Medallion dish. Even a working stenograph machine.

Hot items now in the antiquing world include anything silver, especially the Morgan Dollar, which was produced out of pure silver and circulated in the late 1800s. But Evans said that on any given day it's hard to predict what will sell.

"It's ever-changing," he said. "One day, we'll sell nothing but glass, one day we'll sell books."

Evans said he purchases many items at flea markets and estate sales, but often has been able to get items from other antique shops that have closed. He said his store is different than others because he makes a point not to overcharge. At Saturday's silent auction, for instance, he will set maximum bids on each item.

"We make it so you can't lose," he said. "We want people to keep coming back."

The silent auction at New 2 Us runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The store is at 1355 Odenton Road.
