Can You Help the Anne Arundel School Board Find the Right Superintendent?

Five public forum meetings and an online survey will gather public input on the qualities of the next superintendent.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education is opening its ears to the public to find what qualities community members would like for the county's next superintendent.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools has been headed by Mamie Perkins since former superintendent Kevin Maxwell left the post in July to lead Prince George's County schools. Perkins' contract with Anne Arundel schools ends June 30, 2014.

If selected by the board, the new superintendent would begin a four-year term on July 1, 2014.

In December, the board will host four public meetings throughout the county to gather public input in the search for the next head of schools. The board is also hosting an online survey on the issue.

Each meeting is being divided into two segments—one session for school employees from 5-6 p.m., and one session for parents, from 6:30-7 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the Board Room at the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis
  • Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the cafeteria at Glen Burnie High School, 7550 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Glen Burnie
  • Thursday, Dec. 12, in the cafeteria at Arundel High School, 1001 Annapolis Road, Gambrills
  • Thursday, Dec. 12, in the cafeteria at Severna Park Middle School, 450 Jumpers Hole Road, Severna Park
There will also be a daytime session held at the board's chambers at the Parham Building in Annapolis on Dec. 12 from 10-11 a.m.

The online survey can be found here, and will run until 8 p.m. on Dec. 12. A Spanish language version is also available.
